Expecting our first baby in the time of Covid-19 has been…interesting. In many ways we’re super fortunate – we’re both working from home, have a comfortable house to spend time in, and have lots of friends and family who support us from afar. The challenges have been the same as for many people during social distancing – we miss our friends and family, and never knew how good we had it when we could just meet up with friends for dinner, or travel to visit our parents and siblings.

But thanks to the internet (and essential workers) we’ve been able to adapt most aspects of getting ready for a baby. Our birthing class moved online, so we get to learn from the comfort of our couch. Courtney had to go to a few doctor’s appointments alone, but none of them were canceled or postponed. And, with the help of wonderful friends and one very dedicated grandma, we did our baby shower on Zoom! We went down to Illinois to have it at Courtney’s parents’ house, so all the gifts were shipped there. Deb wrapped them all and also did a world-class job decorating the house to celebrate Baby G. Then we got to see everyone’s beautiful faces on Zoom, where we played a game and opened gifts!

It went by quickly and of course we would have much preferred to spend time with everyone in person. We miss you all and would love to have shared stories about pregnancy and parenting together. But it was still great to see everyone virtually, and friends and relatives from far away were able to participate who might not have made it otherwise.

Below are some pictures. Thank you to everyone who came and/or sent gifts and well wishes. Thank you especially to Gigi, aka Courtney’s mom, who put in so much work to make it fun and celebratory. (Also check out those adorable onesies that she made for a background!!) We can’t wait until the little guy arrives and you all get to meet him in real life!

Excitedly greeting everyone as they popped up on the screen
All my aunts from across the country (well, continent) came right away at the beginning!
So many people came to help us celebrate virtually
One of only a few pictures we’ve taken together since the shut-down started! I’m 33 weeks pregnant here
It was a gorgeous day outside too
This is a sunflower quilt made for Baby G by one of Courtney’s coworkers!
